Even a blind chicken finds a piece of corn once in a while. I feel that way about my winter ski activation of W7Y/SL-109 in KFF-4448 and US-4535 in Bridger National Forest, on March 5, 2023. If you’re a backcountry ski and you ski in March, you know it can be feast or famine, victory or defeat. Snow conditions range from perfect hero powder to concrete-like snow or breakable crust that wants to destroy your knee.
But I was very fortunate. It was a perfect day for skiing, sunny and calm with about 6 inches of lovely powder that had fallen the night before. Trail breaking up was pretty easy and skiing down was lovely.
And the band conditions were great too. I made 84 contacts in little over an hour.
The ski down was easy listening FM all the way back to the car.
