TUFTELN End Fed Half Wave Review

Review of TUFTELN End Fed Half Wave Wire Antenna Kit

Josh, N5FY, builds a lot of very nice gear for QRP operation, and his products are very reasonably priced. I especially like his small, lightweight antenna kits. They are very simple, and they are very effective. Also, they are relatively easy to build. For example, I have built several micro 49:1 transformers that you need a magnifying glass to see. And they are difficult for me to build; everything is packed in so tight.

Josh’s antennas are almost as light as the ultralight antennas, but much easier to build. Plus, since there is no circuit board, you can see clearly how the antenna works.

The antenna kit without the wire is $14 and $56 for the kit with wire for the 40 meter band. Also, if you don’t find the exact configuration you want, Josh is willing to put together a custom kit. And finally, you can buy these kits already built by Josh.

The kit comes with everything you need to build the 49:1 transformer plus it includes a winder.

I have built a couple of these kits, one with a 49:1 transformer and one with a 4:1 transformer. In addition, Josh has very good documentation on how to build the kits. And he also has complete videos of the build where he explains every step. If you’re a beginner at building your own wire antennas, these kits are a great place to start.
